Therm-Tech uses mentoring because it allows heat treaters/learners to better understand the organization and the heat treat process. The heat treaters learn to use time management which helps them to become more focused and effective. The mentors show the learners to monitor progress by using a process of listening and reflection. The mentors lead by example by breaking major projects down into smaller tasks that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-related. After all is said and done, each learner under the mentoring program learns to:
- Manage time and plan tasks
- Manage others at Therm-Tech
- Delegate as necessary
- Set needed objectives and timelines
- Conduct careful reflection through thinking about actions taken
Each mentor that helps to mentor knows that:
- It takes place as part of the normal operation of the work day
- It correlates to work and the heat treaters job
- It is individually based and it is connected directly and uniquely to each person
- It uses immediate feedback that involves the mentor and the heat treater
- It is good to stay flexible and that mentoring can happen in many different ways
