HARDENING
ThermTech refers to hardening as a process in which the entire alloy or components microstructure is being changed by a thermal process to show an overall increase in the parts mechanical properties which results in a higher hardness than the alloy or component originally had. This typically is done through quenching the parts in liquid or by aging them at an artificial temperature.
SURFACE HEAT TREATMENTS
This group of thermal processes refers to a treatment where typically the surface layer has the requirement of a higher hardness which is typically more wear resistant than the core of material.
VACUUM TREATMENTS
More of a description of the equipment than a specific heat-treatment, vacuum processing is very versatile and solves several issues regarding the running of dissimilar materials of differing chemistries and by minimizing any oxidation or discoloration that would typically be found in both non-protective and protective atmosphere furnaces.
ANNEALING
A term typically recognized as referring to a thermal process in which the alloy or component is softened in hardness and mechanical properties by changing its microstructure to a phase softer than the previous phase. Some of the benefits of this process is to stabilize dimensional tolerances, improve machinability, change magnetic or electrical properties, and to improve the ability of the material to be subsequently cold-worked.

PRESS QUENCHING
Press quenching, at its core, is a heat treatment process that employs both controlled cooling and mechanical force to minimize distortions in gears. It’s a meticulously regulated procedure that ensures not only the desired hardness of the material but also dimensional accuracy.
